Jaguars' Parker Washington betting on himself after failed contract talks

One of the surprise teams in the NFL last season was the Jacksonville Jaguars. In their first season with head coach Liam Coen, the Jaguars posted a 13-4 record, winning the AFC South and hosting a home playoff game.

A focal point of the Jacksonville offense headed into the 2026 season is expected to be wide receiver Parker Washington. A former sixth-round pick, Washington had a breakout campaign in 2025 with 847 yards and five touchdowns.

Washington has been attempting to work on a contract extension with Jacksonville ahead of Week 1, and that decision has now ultimately been made.

Parker Washington, Jacksonville couldn't agree on a deal

According to NFL insider Cameron Wolfe, Washington and the Jaguars have not been able to come to an agreement on a contract extension prior to Week 1.

Insider Jordan Schultz reported that the two sides ultimately could not agree on the compensation part of the extension, and that eventually put a halt to negotiations.

Ultimately, sources say that Parker Washington and the #Jaguars simply could not agree with the compensation on a new deal.

Can Parker Washington perform in a contract year?

After a breakout campaign last season, more defensive coordinators are going to put an emphasis on limiting Washington's production.

Luckily for him, his head coach is among the best play-callers in the entire league and will almost certainly create plays and schemes to get his rising star receiver open.

Washington betting on himself will be a major storyline to watch for the Jaguars this season, and an increase in production from last season would make for a hefty payday in free agency next spring.
