Warriors have no easy answer to their most glaring frontcourt concern

The Golden State Warriors will once again enter the upcoming season with lofty expectations, but everybody knows that they are not in the actual running for the championship. Aside from the fact that they missed out on nearly all of the stars they targeted this offseason, their nucleus is old and riddled with weak points.

Most glaring is the fact that the Warriors have a thin frontcourt, especially when it comes to the center position. As currently constructed, their big man rotation consists of Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Charles Bassey. That quartet is hardly inspiring in the grand scheme of things.

The Warriors has always been supercharged by their perimeter players. That is how their longstanding system is designed. However, having such a brittle big man rotation could very well be their downfall, especially with the contenders in the West touting daunting frontcourts of their own.

Green (36) and Horford (40) are old, and while they are among the headiest players in the league, their advanced age will not make it any easier for them to compensate for their being undersized on a nightly basis.

Porzingis is still in his prime age-wise, but he is injury-prone. He offers the most length and defensive range on the roster, but his availability is already a toss-up from game to game. Simply put, he is unreliable as a frontcourt centerpiece.

Bassey is not a terrible option as a third-string big man, but there is a reason why he has yet to land a consistent role on an NBA team. Aside rom his great shot-blocking prowess, he lacks in a lot of areas. His rebounding and finishing are both subpar.

No one is really seriously considering the Warriors are a contender. However, even their playoff bid might be in danger, especially if one of the players in their thin big man rotation ends up looking like their age or gets bit by the injury bug.
