Shane Lowry admits how he felt about Donald Trump presenting him with the Irish Open trophy

Lowry’s poor behavior on Saturday at the Irish Open was quickly forgotten about as he stormed to a truly remarkable victory on Sunday at Trump International Links.

President Donald Trump was in attendance to watch the weekend’s action in Doonbeg, and the 47th U.S. President presented Lowry with the trophy on Sunday.

Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka spoke about Trump being in attendance this week, with both players highlighting how cool it was to see Air Force 1 descend into Doonbeg.

When speaking to RTE after his fine Irish Open victory, Lowry responded when asked how it felt to have Donald Trump present him with the trophy.

“Yeah, bit mad,“ Lowry said.

“Obviously, it’s his course and, you know, Doonbeg itself has been incredible all week.

“You know, when we came to Lahinch in 2019 down the west of Ireland, I thought, what a golf tournament, and, you know, Doonbeg seems to have, you know, definitely was as good as that.

“I think the crowd down here and the way people come out and support their home players is incredible.

“So it’s pretty cool what he does for this community and we all repaid him this week.“

Trump has brought real economic growth to Doonbeg since he purchased the golf course and land back in 2014.

Whether you love him or hate him, it’s difficult to argue that he has had anything other than a positive influence in the local community in Doonbeg.

Shane Lowry was desperate to silence his doubters

Lowry told reporters how he felt like he was under serious pressure to get the job done at the Irish Open on Sunday.

“I had a tough morning, to be honest, because, like, this year’s been hard,“ Lowry admitted.

“This year has been, you know, on the course, I’ve had a few kind of mishaps and it’s been well documented, and I have a lot of doubters out there.

“And even, you know, you doubt yourself at times, but I went out this morning and I went out to win this tournament and that’s what I did.

“I’m so happy, like I couldn’t, couldn’t be happier. I don’t seem to do it very often, but when I do, it seems to be pretty cool.

“So that was unbelievable today. Yeah, it was big, but, you know, it’s nice to do it in a big event as well, you know, and something that, this feels as big as it gets for me.“
