The Nets might have the most erratic trade candidate next season

The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a forgettable campaign last season when they turned in the second-worst record in the NBA. Winning games was certainly not at the forefront of their plans, and fans and pundits alike are in unison that such direction will persist in the upcoming season.

That being said, they do have more ammunition this time around, which means that they should also have more opportunities to play the role of seller in the trade market and fetch assets for some of their veteran commodities. To that effect, they have Julius Randle on the roster to dangle for potentially significant future-oriented returns.

Randle, however, is an interesting case in that while he is an established star, it is unclear if there are teams out there who would be galvanized by the prospect of striking a deal to acquire his services.

The three-time All-Star was a key part of a Timberwolves squad that made deep playoff runs over the last couple of years, but it appears that the consensus on him is that he is more of a floor raiser than a ceiling booster.

Randle is also starting to get up there in age. He'll turn 32 on Nov. 29, and that is something which playoff teams will have to be mindful of if they want to build a more lasting winning squad.

To start the season, the Nets will most likely accommodate Randle and treat him like an All-Star as arguably their best player. However, everyone knows that such approach is only intended to showcase his skills and make him more appealing to possible buyers before the deadline.

The part where Brooklyn must exercise caution, however, is with regard to Randle's approach. The veteran has drawn some flak in the past due to his tendency to disengage when things are not going in his way, and with the Nets likely to lose a lot, that could end up being fuel to the fire.

If all goes well, the Nets should be able to easily flip Julius Randle for some useful assets for their rebuild. Otherwise, they could be looking at a nearly untradable piece.
