Pete Alonso's 300th home run makes history in multiple ways

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso has become the 19th active player to reach 300 career home runs, and he accomplished it at his former home, Citi Field.

He achieved the major feat by crushing his 36th home run of the season against New York Mets reliever Kodai Senga in the top of the ninth inning on Tuesday.

The home run also tied the game at 3-3, bringing the Orioles back in the game, where they eventually went on to defeat the Mets 7-5 in extras.

Alonso now joins both Albert Pujols and Ralph Kiner as the only players in MLB history to reach 300 home runs in the first eight seasons of his career. In addition, he has reached 300 home runs in the 10th-fewest games in MLB history (1,160).

Pete Alonso captivates Mets fans with milestone home run

The 31-year-old earned "Pete Alonso" chants following the milestone home run, and he also received a curtain call from the crowd at Citi Field. It's a strong indication that the New York faithful still have major respect for the former Mets player who collected 951 hits, 264 home runs and 712 RBI in his career with the team.

The Polar Bear, as many like to call him, also received welcoming chants from Mets fans when he first returned to Queens on Monday. While he remained hitless, the Orioles officially eliminated the Mets from playoff contention with their 2-1 win over New York.

Since joining the Orioles, Alonso has put up a stellar performance, batting .267 with 101 RBI and a dominant .861 OPS. He has been a revelation for the Orioles, helping to provide a massive offensive boost.

The Orioles still remain in playoff contention, and if Alonso can help them clinch a playoff berth, he will officially be their hero this season.
