Ole Miss to bring in more police for Lane Kiffin’s return

Ole Miss is making sure it is prepared for Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford on Saturday.

Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen admitted that his force is bringing in additional help for when Kiffin brings the LSU Tigers to Ole Miss as a visitor on Saturday. While he denied rumors that the National Guard is involved, he did admit that the city is bringing in additional horse-mounted patrols from as far away as New Orleans, La. and Mobile, Ala.

“I feel like it will probably be one of the biggest crowds that any of us have ever seen, and so you take that into consideration,” McCutchen said, via Jake Holcomb of WTVA.

All involved have good reason to expect a very hostile crowd. The first time he visited another one of his former schools, there was a near-riot toward the end of the game. The wounds in Oxford will be even fresher, given he just left last offseason and Rebels fans were furious about the nature of his departure.

Even beyond Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss, Saturday’s game will be huge for both teams, who will enter the game in the top ten. LSU is regarded as the initial favorite, but pressure will be on Kiffin to ensure he is not bested by his former school.
