Why you should be skeptical about Red Wings' Dylan Larkin announcement

The problem is the Red Wings have been dragging their feet on hiring a new general manager following Steve Yzerman's reassignment within the organization. It took them two months just to announce that Horcoff was taking over the interim duties, and it remains unclear if he ever has the authority to orchestrate trades.

He might have the ability to negotiate contracts for restricted free agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson and veteran players eligible for contract extensions, but completing other roster moves may be removed from his task list.

That leaves Larkin and the Red Wings in a state of limbo.

It's certainly possible that Larkin did, in fact, suffer some sort of an injury. 

But the timing of this is way too convenient, and the explanation is way too easy. 

He still wants a trade. 

He has not received a trade.

He knows it is still probably going to be a long time before he actually gets a trade. 

The only other card he has to play in terms of getting a trade is to not participate and not show up. We will see how long this goes on, but if days and weeks start to pass without him getting on the ice, your skepticism should continue to grow.
