Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong makes franchise history with latest HR

The Chicago Cubs have a new all-time franchise leader for home runs in a single season by a left-handed batter.

'Sweet Swinging' Billy Williams has held the franchise record since 1970, but that now belongs to superstar center fielder and NL MVP frontrunner Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Pete Crow-Armstrong is alone in franchise history

Crow-Armstrong launched his 43rd home run of the season on Wednesday, the most ever by a left-handed hitter in franchise history.

PCA had just recently tied Williams on Monday with his 42nd home run of the season, and he's now moved ahead with a second home run in three games.

Pete Crow-Armstrong is nearing another franchise milestone

Earlier in the season, Crow-Armstrong joined Sammy Sosa as the only two players in franchise history to post consecutive 30-30 seasons.

Now, with the 43 home runs, Crow-Armstrong has a different milestone in mind, one that's never been accomplished in Cubs history. PCA needs just three more stolen bases to post the first 40-40 season in franchise history.

If he can accomplish the feat, Crow-Armstrong would be just the seventh player in MLB history to post a 40-40 season and the third in four seasons (Shohei Ohtani 2023, Ronald Acuna Jr. 2024).

Pete Crow-Armstrong has arguably posted the best season in franchise history

If Crow-Armstrong gets to 40-40 he'll certainly have a case, but even now, it could be argued that PCA's 2026 season is the best in franchise history.

While he doesn't necessarily have the stats like Sammy Sosa in 2001 (64 HR, 160 RBI) or Rogers Hornsby in 1929 (.380/.459/.679), Crow-Armstrong's combination of offense, defense and baserunning gives him an argument to rival any previous season in franchise history.

Barring an epic collapse, PCA's argument will only get stronger in November when he is awarded the first National League MVP Award of his career.
