Dodgers clinch fifth straight NL West title, move to top of all-time list

Needing one more win to lock up a fifth consecutive National League West title, the Los Angeles Dodgers took care of business on Thursday. The Dodgers won on the road, beating the Cincinnati Reds 8-2.

The Dodgers' latest victory moves their 2026 record to 93-60, putting them out of reach of the 83-69 San Diego Padres. The game saw starter Justin Wrobleski go only three innings and then three relief pitchers enter the game, most notably Landon Knack logging four inning of his own.

Kyle Tucker hit a two-run home run and drove in four runs as part of a four-hit day as the Dodgers completed the series win, taking three out of four from the Reds in Cincinnati.

Los Angeles' latest division championship gives the Dodgers the most all-time

The Dodgers have now secured a similar path to the one that led to winning back-to-back World Series titles. But even extending beyond the Dodgers' recent championships, which also includes a third from the shortened 2020 season, Los Angeles has won the National League West 13 of the last 14 years.

The 2026 division crown made history as well. The Dodgers now own the most division titles all-time, having captured 24 overall, the first coming in 1974, since divisions were created in 1969. Just behind the Dodgers, sits the Atlanta Braves with 23. The Braves would tie the Dodgers if they stay at the top of the National League East, currently sitting 4.5 games above the Philadelphia Phillies

However, for the Dodgers, nothing matters without lifting the Commissioner's Trophy at the end of the postseason.

Only two franchises have ever won three straight World Series titles

It's now up to Shohei Ohtani, who didn't play in the division-clinching game, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and company to successful defend again and become only the third organization to ever win three straight World Series championships, joining three different iterations of the New York Yankees, granted only one since the advent of divisions from 1998-2000, and the 1972-74 Oakland Athletics

Regardless of what happens in the playoffs, there's no denying the Dodgers are one of the sport's most successful franchise, and that's been the case throughout multiple eras of Major League Baseball.
