Giants place starter on IR before 'Monday Night Football' matchup vs. Rams

The New York Giants have a new problem to deal with before "Monday Night Football." Starting cornerback Paulson Adebo is headed to injured reserve with a knee injury.

Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed the move Friday during a press conference, just days before New York travels to Los Angeles to face the Rams.

Paulson Adebo lands on injured reserve

There is some good news here. Harbaugh does not believe the knee injury is something that will linger deep into the season.

“Not a long-term knee issue, but one that's going to keep him out for a few weeks,” Harbaugh said.

A few weeks is still a significant loss for the Giants.

Adebo has also been fighting through some nagging issues since training camp. Harbaugh brought that up Friday while talking about what New York hopes to see once its starting corner gets back on the field.

“He's fully capable of playing at a high level,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, you know, he's a top-level corner, so you want him playing at a top level.”

For now, that will have to wait.

Giants have another concern at cornerback

Losing Adebo would be easier to stomach if the rest of the cornerback room were healthy. It isn't.

Deonte Banks is also dealing with an injury. Harbaugh called him “day-to-day” Friday and said the Giants will see where things go.

That leaves New York with some decisions to make before Monday night.

The Giants are coming off a win over the Dallas Cowboys, but a trip across the country to play the Rams presents a different challenge. Doing it without Adebo makes the job tougher.

New York now has a couple of days to figure out what its secondary will look like without him.
