Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. gets surprisingly bad news about his trade future

The Pittsburgh Steelers will hit the road to take on the New England Patriots in Week 2, and they'll do so without one of their key defensive player.

Star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. will miss his second straight game with an injury, though the timing is rather suspicious.

The former second-round pick is pushing to get a new deal, and the Steelers' policy of not negotiating extensions during the season might've rubbed him the wrong way.

However, as clear as it is that he's not happy with his situation, it doesn't seem like he'll leave anytime soon. According to a report by ESPN's Brooke Pryor and Jeremy Fowler, there hasn't been any traction regarding a potential move.

No one's trying to trade for Joey Porter Jr.

"The Steelers could trade Porter, though the team has neither made nor received any serious inquiries about the cornerback. One NFL executive believes the Steelers could get a second-round pick in exchange for Porter and a quality Day 3 draft selection," the report read

Perhaps this is because Porter reportedly wants specific guarantees beyond the first year of the contract.

He's also reportedly looking to sign a big-money deal, though he's still not considered to be on the same tier as players like Christian Gonzalez or Devon Witherspoon.

Whatever the case, Porter is an extremely valuable piece of the Steelers defense, and it doesn't seem like he's ready to budge on his demands.

That said, the Steelers have done business in a certain way for decades, and they may not want to change their approach for anyone other than a superstar.

It's hard to believe no one would be interested in a dynamic cornerback who can also stop the run, especially after watching teams like the Detroit Lions struggle to contain big plays in consecutive weeks.

But with no takers for the talented cornerback, it now seems like both parties are stuck in a staring contest.

He'll be a free agent at the end of the season, but sitting out the year will do little to boost his already-polarizing value.
