Even more importantly for Logano, he gained another three spots in the standings and now trails the new points leader Larson by just 16 points after three races in the Chase. For a driver who was struggling to even make the Chase earlier this season, Logano continues to remind everyone why he should never be counted out.

The upcoming three-race stretch at 1.5-mile tracks should test Logano, considering his struggles on those layouts this season, but a third win and another gain in the standings should have the rest of the field worried.

Ryan Blaney takes points hit after run-in with Carson Hocevar

For much of Saturday night, Blaney arguably looked like he had the car to beat after a decision from crew chief Jonathan Hassler to stay out during the Lap 40 competition caution leaped him all the way up to fourth from a 29th-place starting position.

His night quickly took a turn, though, when he and Hocevar got together with 43 laps to go, sending Blaney hard into the outside wall and ending his race in 33rd.

If that was not enough drama between Blaney and Hocevar, the two traded blows on pit road after the race as Blaney walked over to show his displeasure.

While Hocevar felt that Blaney "spun himself" prior to the fight breaking out on pit road, Blaney took action and became the first driver to get back at Hocevar after his numerous on-track run-ins early in his career. Blaney did ultimately come down to make a block, but the past history he and other drivers have had with Hocevar certainly played a role in the aggression, both on and off the track.

It was a sequence of events that understandably got all the attention at "The Last Great Colosseum," but it resulted in Blaney falling all the way down to sixth in points (-52) to Larson. Hocevar, meanwhile, is eighth (-85).

Ty Gibbs comes up short in Kyle Busch throwback scheme

For much of the race, it looked like the stars were aligning for Gibbs to take the iconic M&M throwback scheme to victory lane and provide a fitting tribute to the late Busch, who won a combined 23 NASCAR national series races at Bristol.

Despite leading 120 laps and controlling the latter part of the race, Gibbs fell victim to some contact racing in the closing laps and slid back to fifth. However, that was not without some damage in a three-wide battle with Alex Bowman and Cole Custer a little earlier, with 69 laps to go.

It may not have ended the way he wanted it to, but on an emotional night in the sport's first trip back to the track, Busch dominated for so long; Gibbs gave the M&M's Toyota one memorable run that nearly ended in the most fitting way possible.

Points battle tightens up 

While drivers like Tyler Reddick (18th), Chase Elliott (23rd), Chase Briscoe (27th) and Blaney (33rd) dug themselves an even deeper hole in the standings, some drivers had much better outings.

With his runner-up, Larson now leads Hamlin by one, while Logano (-16), Christopher Bell (-17) and Gibbs (-42) showed that this title is still anyone's for the taking with seven races left to decide the champion.
