Heisman-worthy performance from Trinidad Chambliss leads Ole Miss over Lane Kiffin, LSU

It was a risky play call given the clock and timeout situation, but when you have a quarterback that can make a throw like that, you sometimes have to trust him.

After LSU stormed back in the second half to tie the game at 24, and pretty much taking all of the air and excitement out of the situation, Chambliss put together a 13-play, 74-yard drive that he capped off with a 14-yard touchdown run.

Those are the types of drives, plays and moments that end up on a Heisman Trophy highlight reel at the end of the season. If he keeps playing like that, and Ole Miss keeps winning and climbing the rankings, that sort of story might be unfolding for him. And if it is, that could lead to an even bigger story for the Ole Miss program and its potential ceiling for the season. 

So much of the talk this week centered around Kiffin's return to Ole Miss after bailing on the team just before last year's College Football Playoff, and it's understandable as to why. It was a huge story at the time, a seismic shift for the college football landscape, and the type of thing that further fuels a rivalry. 

But it was ultimately Chambliss that ended up being the storyline and stealing the show once the ball was kicked off. 

Coaches make the big money and dominate the headlines. But it still comes down to the players. Chambliss was the best player on the field, and nothing else beyond that mattered.
