Dan Quinn leaves door open to major change after Jayden Daniels injury

Jayden Daniels’ latest injury has created a familiar problem for the Washington Commanders. This time, Dan Quinn isn't ruling out handling the recovery differently.

Daniels is set to see a specialist this week after undergoing imaging, and Washington isn't ready to establish a timeline for his return. The bigger concern is that this isn't an isolated issue.

During an interview with WUSA9, Quinn was asked about Daniels dealing with the injury for the third time in the past couple of seasons. More specifically, he was asked whether its recurring nature could force the Commanders to change how they approach his recovery or eventual return.

Quinn left that possibility open.

“I think fair question. We don't know yet,” Quinn said. “And so, what Jayden will do is see the specialist here and see what that looks like about the next step moving forward. So once we go through that and then we can put like a return to play format on there and see any guidelines that we need to have along those return to play.”

That answer stands out. Quinn could have brushed aside the idea that Daniels' recovery needs to be handled differently. Instead, Washington appears willing to wait for more information before deciding exactly what the process will look like.

The Commanders also aren't simply concerned with whether Daniels feels good enough to throw again.

Quinn explained that part of the rehabilitation process will involve testing what Daniels can physically do with the arm, including whether he can use it to protect himself.

“Can he stiff arm and use his hand like obviously to protect himself and use his arm?” Quinn said. “Until we know more, that's how we'll go.”
