Kyle Whittingham reveals what Michigan is still working on after recent success

Kyle Whittingham and the Michigan Wolverines have experienced a roller coaster of a season so far. They started out their season, of course, barely beating Western Michigan in a controversial 13-12 final score.

But since then, they've certainly improved. The Wolverines beat Oklahoma and UTEP in definitive victories.

So, things are perfect now, right? Not so fast. Whittingham is opening up about his team's status and is making clear that he believes there's more work to be done.

Kyle Whittingham wants the Michigan Wolverines to 'be more consistent'

Speaking with reporters on Monday, the head coach said that he wants his team to play more consistently and to not buckle in difficult moments.

"We're still working on the culture and getting things instilled that way and the expectations," Whittingham said, according to ESPN. "When things get tough, that's when you really need to rise up and up your game and not get a deer-in-the-headlights look type of thing."

He added, "We're making progress in that regard. It's just when things get hard, and you get in difficult situations and face adversity, that's when you need to really rise up with the emotion and the energy and not just put you in a funk, so to speak."

Whittingham added that the team has struggled at times, and he wants them to "be more consistent with our enthusiasm, passion, energy. It seems to ebb and flow a little bit. We've got to find a way to get that passion and energy at a high level from start to finish."

It's not easy for a new coach to get the lay of the land, and perhaps that's part of what's happening with Whittingham. This team obviously made some big mistakes in Week 1 to be so close to losing to a non-conference opponent. Even though Whittingham sounds a bit concerned here, it's obvious things are moving in the right direction with those two latest wins.
