Joe Burrow gets candid about Lane Kiffin and names his surprising LSU Mount Rushmore

Joe Burrow has plenty to worry about with the Cincinnati Bengals, but he still has opinions about what's happening at LSU. Appearing on The Gronk & Jules Show, Burrow discussed Lane Kiffin, recalled some of Ed Orgeron's more entertaining moments and found himself in a difficult position when asked to name LSU's greatest players.

As it turns out, even Burrow couldn't narrow that last question down to four names.

Burrow weighs in on Lane Kiffin

Burrow doesn't have many familiar faces left at LSU. Most of the coaches and players from his 2019 national championship team have moved on, although he still knows members of the training and equipment staffs.

That didn't stop him from offering his thoughts on Kiffin.

"I think Lane Kiffin is good for LSU. I think you need somebody like that," Burrow said.

He explained that coaching at LSU requires a particular personality. There will always be people questioning decisions, and Burrow believes Kiffin is comfortable dealing with that pressure.

"For LSU, you need somebody that just doesn't care what people think. You know, he's going to do what he thinks is best. And I think guys gravitate towards that."

Burrow also believes that approach suits Louisiana, where he said people appreciate having a chip on their shoulder.

The conversation eventually shifted to Orgeron, and Burrow had a story that probably won't surprise anyone who remembers the former LSU coach.

Every Friday, the Tigers held meetings to review personnel changes in case someone got injured. Orgeron apparently treated those meetings like they were the fourth quarter of a championship game.

"Coach O would always come in, rip his shirt off, bring a ton of energy."

Sometimes he banged water bottles together. Other times he threw towels around the room. Whatever he did, Burrow said his enthusiasm was contagious.

He credited Orgeron with bringing toughness back to LSU and setting the tone for the team that eventually won the national championship.
