Bills HC Joe Brady delivers major injury updates on Keon Coleman, DJ Moore ahead of Week 3

The Buffalo Bills could be missing two important receivers when they face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Head coach Joe Brady provided injury updates on Keon Coleman and DJ Moore during Friday's news conference, with both players' availability potentially remaining uncertain until game time.

Buffalo isn't waiting around for answers. Brady already has contingency plans in place if Josh Allen has to face the Chargers without one or both receivers.

Keon Coleman and DJ Moore could be game-time decisions

Brady confirmed that Coleman and Moore are questionable for Sunday's matchup. Neither has been ruled out, and the Bills intend to give both players every opportunity to get healthy.

"I'm going to give them all the way through till game time," Brady said.

Moore missed Thursday's practice before returning in a limited capacity Friday. Brady declined to discuss the specifics of his recovery but explained that the team is evaluating what gives him the best chance of playing.

That doesn't mean Buffalo will take unnecessary risks.

"We're never going to put somebody out there that we feel like is at a medical risk," Brady said.

The Bills will continue evaluating both receivers over the next 24 to 48 hours. If they're cleared, Brady expects them to be ready to contribute.

Bills already preparing for a depleted receiving corps

Brady acknowledged that he's developed several plans depending on which receivers are available Sunday. Fortunately for Buffalo, he believes the team's depth and positional versatility will make those adjustments manageable.

Joshua Palmer could find himself with a larger role. Brady praised his attention to detail as a route-runner and pointed to the growing trust between Palmer and Allen.

Rookie Skyler Bell could also benefit from the uncertainty surrounding Coleman and Moore. Bell has continued practicing with Allen and learning from veterans Khalil Shakir and Moore, particularly when it comes to playing multiple receiver positions.

Brady stressed that even players who don't expect to be active must prepare as though they'll be needed. With two receivers questionable, that message carries additional weight this week.

Buffalo did receive some encouraging news elsewhere. Running back Ty Johnson is expected to return Sunday, giving Allen another offensive weapon. However, defensive lineman T.J. Sanders and defensive back Jordan Hancock have both been ruled out. Defensive tackle Ed Oliver is questionable.

For now, Coleman and Moore remain the biggest questions. The Bills have alternatives ready, but Sunday's inactive list could force Brady to make significant changes to his receiving rotation.
