Fernando Tatis Jr. interrupts AJ Preller’s interview with a surprise request

Fernando Tatis Jr. saw an opportunity amid a wild celebration in the San Diego Padres locker room and went for it.

As Marty Caswell of Foul Territory interviewed Padres president of baseball operations and general manager AJ Preller after San Diego’s 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, Tatis entered the picture and endorsed a contract extension for his teammate and relief pitcher Adrian Morejon.

While Tatis was making his case for his buddy, Morejon could be seen in the background making a money gesture a la Johnny Manziel. Preller and Morejon then dapped up before the GM returned to the interview.

Tatis, Morejon, Preller and all the Padres were simply in a great mood after beating the reigning World Series champions at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif., to officially punch their ticket to the MLB postseason.

Morejon has been among San Diego’s top performers in 2026, with a 2.86 ERA through 73 appearances and 85.0 innings. Between that and an All-Star nod in 2025, the 27-year-old pitcher has made a strong case for a big new contract with San Diego, which signed him to a 1-year, $3.9 million deal in January to avoid arbitration.

But he can prove himself further in the postseason, as the Padres look to make a deep run and perhaps surprise the baseball world by winning the World Series.
