The Texas Longhorns are already dealing with some bad news on the hardwood.
They're heading into year two of the Sean Miller era and coming off a Sweet 16 appearance.
Miller brought in several strong players via the transfer portal, and he also cleaned up on the recruiting trail. He brought in the No. 1-ranked 2026 recruiting class in the country.
As such, Texas enters this 2026-27 college basketball season with some high aspirations. The Longhorns can still absolutely be a contender, but the start of the season has just gotten a little bit tougher.
On Wednesday morning, it was reported that transfer guard Mikey Lewis is going to miss an extended period of time with a foot fracture.
News out of Texas: Key transfer Mikey Lewis fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot earlier this week, per the school. Surgery coming Thursday and he'll be out for "an extended period of time with his recovery, but this is not expected to be a season-ending injury."

The good news is that this doesn't appear to be something that tanks Lewis' 2026-27 season.
The bad news, for the Longhorns, is that they were expecting Lewis to play a big role from the get-go.
He transferred to Texas after two seasons playing for Saint Mary's. A 4-star combo guard recruit who was ranked as the No. 12 overall player with that designation in the recruiting class of 2024, he averaged 11 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 68 career games with the Gaels.
He was the WCC Sixth Man of the Year as a freshman and a first- team All-WCC player in 2025-26.
Initial recovery can take up to eight weeks after this kind of surgery, but it shouldn't be expected that Lewis can get back onto the court without limitations for Texas until 2027.
The Longhorns' season kicks off on November 2 against Chicago State.
