The Vegas Golden Knights have made things wilder in the ''Wild West'' by signing William Karlsson to a two-year, $13.5 million contract extension.

Karlsson was coming into his final season of an eight-year contract. Vegas has locked in its versatile 33-year-old veteran center before he was going to hit unrestricted free agency.

Karlsson will earn an AAV of $6.75 million per season, and the deal will commence in the 2027-28 season.

While Karlsson was sidelined and played only 14 games last season because of a lower-body injury, recording four goals and seven points, he is valued as a franchise cornerstone.

William Karlsson's proven track record earns him a contract extension with Vegas

As a critical two-way leader, Karlsson has already established his merits by making a notable postseason return in the team's run to the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. He was an original misfit in 2017 and has built a reputation as a franchise legend.

He ranks second in franchise goals with 165 and points with 403. Karlsson is also the all-time leader in short-handed goals with 15 and was a Stanley Cup champion with Vegas in 2023. He has also demonstrated his postseason pedigree by playing in 121 postseason games for Vegas.

While Karlsson missed 68 regular-season games, returning for 15 postseason games showcased his resilience. He also proved his worth in the playoffs by scoring nine playoff points that helped the Golden Knights reach the final. Despite Karlsson's injury-interrupted season, he has illustrated how dominant he is when healthy as an impactful center forward.
