USC HC Lincoln Riley's poor response to Oregon loss is on brand for rudderless Trojans

USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley would like to remind everyone that it could be a lot worse.

His Trojans are coming off a demoralizing 41-27 home loss to the Oregon Ducks.

USC was the home favorite in this game, coming into the Coliseum ranked No. 12, while Dan Lanning's Ducks were ranked No. 20. Oregon also got beaten earlier this year by the Oregon State Cowboys, so this is far from a superpower Oregon team.

Let's also not forget the fact that the Ducks were on their backup quarterback, Dylan Raiola, by 9:45 to go in the second quarter. Oregon's starting quarterback, Dante Moore, was knocked out by USC's Desman Stephens II on an awful targeting play.

He was celebrating like he had just won the Super Bowl, despite the fact that Moore had to leave on a cart.

But hey, at least USC didn't get blown out. Here's how Riley explained the loss when he recently talked to the media.

“We didn’t get run out of the stadium. There’s a lot of good on that tape. You don’t have a chance to win a game like that if you don’t do some things pretty well," he said.

USC Trojans feel rudderless under Lincoln Riley

USC has now fallen out of the Big Ten title race, and let's not forget that Riley has never led the Trojans to the College Football Playoff, even with the expanded 12-team format.

He's now 0-3 against Lanning in head-to-head matchups. He's also 6-14 against ranked opponents at USC, which is a pitiful record for a "big-time" coach.

Worse than anything, the vibes couldn't be worse for Riley and the Trojans. We're not at Lane Kiffin getting "tarmaced" levels just yet, but his perspective on this loss sure is defeating.

In the meantime, let's check in with Lanning after the win:

"I guess if you're interested in winning football games and you're from this area, you should go to Oregon," Lanning said. "If you want to go to a Chris Brown concert, you should go here."
