Chase Briscoe holds off Kyle Larson to win South Point 400 at Las Vegas

For the second week in a row, Chase Briscoe had Kyle Larson breathing down his neck in the closing laps.

But unlike last week at Kansas, Briscoe held off the defending NASCAR Cup Series champion to win Sunday's South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, taking his second win of the 2026 season.

Bubba Wallace was closing on Briscoe early in the race's final run, but it was Larson — who struggled early and earned only one stage point on the afternoon — who passed Wallace for second and put pressure on Briscoe down the stretch.

Larson was close enough to make a move on the final lap, but a good final corner from Briscoe gave him just enough breathing room.

"I don't think I would've been able to get on the plane; they would've all kicked my butt," Briscoe joked to USA Network. "[Crew chief James Small] especially; I would've been scared to see him if I didn't pull that one off.

"What an amazing day. I hope that was a good race. From my seat there at the end, I don't know what more you could want from a cat-and-mouse standpoint. So thankful to get to victory lane."

Larson hit the wall hard on the final lap, collecting Tyler Reddick. However, Larson and Reddick still finished second and third.

Larson now has a 40-point lead over Denny Hamlin in the series standings with five races left in the season. Hamlin started from the pole and was fast early before spinning late in Stage 1. Fuel pressure issues before the start of Stage 3 put Hamlin even further back in the pack, and he finished 16th.

Larson, Reddick, Austin Cindric and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five, with William Byron, Chase Elliott, Wallace, Shane van Gisbergen and Joey Logano completing the top 10.

Notable results

Other notable finishers include Carson Hocevar in 12th, Chris Buescher in 13th, Daniel Suarez in 14th, Hamlin in 16th, Ty Gibbs in 17th, Christopher Bell in 23rd and Ryan Preece in 28th.

Bell struggled with power steering issues throughout the second half of Sunday's race.

There are now only five races left in the 2026 season, with the Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway next on the schedule on Oct. 11.
