CeeDee Lamb saves Cowboys from 1-3 start with incredible outing vs. Texans

The Dallas Cowboys haven't solved their defensive problems, but at least they know they can count on star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The Cowboys acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday night, and he debuted on Sunday in Week 4 against the Houston Texans. Porter looked solid, allowing no receptions on 25 snaps (via Pro Football Focus).

The same can't be said for the rest of the Cowboys defense, which allowed 397 yards. Dallas' offense, however, outgained Houston, amassing 399 yards in a 34-30 win. Lamb generated many of those yards in what will undoubtedly rank among the best games of his seven-year career.

CeeDee Lamb dominated against Texans

Lamb saved the Cowboys from a 1-3 start after their defense folded again. Texans second-year running back Woody Marks rushed for a six-yard touchdown with 2:23 left in the fourth quarter, punctuating a nine-play, 87-yard drive.

Lamb responded on the ensuing possession. The WR caught five passes on an 11-play drive, including a 12-yard go-ahead TD with 0:40 left in the fourth quarter. Houston (0-4) then failed to score, securing the win for the Cowboys.

It would've been a shame if Dallas had wasted Lamb's performance. Per PFF, the last player to record 17-plus catches in a game was Keenan Allen, who did so while starring for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023.

Lamb continues to make fantasy owners who drafted him smile. Sunday marked his third straight game with 112-plus receiving yards, according to StatMuse.

Dallas' defense shouldn't be let off the hook after Sunday's game. The unit should be playing at a much higher level after adding Porter and rookies Jaishawn Barham (linebacker) and Caleb Downs (safety). And if it doesn't improve, the Cowboys may miss the playoffs for a third consecutive season.

That said, if Lamb keeps dominating opposing secondaries, the Cowboys will stay in many games. That will even help them win a few, as it did on Sunday.
