It certainly did not take long before Giannis Antetokounmpo got to showcase just how dominant he can be for the Miami Heat. In just 14 minutes of gameplay in their first preseason match against the Raptors, the two-time Most Valuable Player turned in nine points, four rebounds and seven assists.
Yes, you read that right. Giannis dished out seven dimes in his limited minutes, which is pretty reflective of how the Heat plan to deploy and further unlock him this coming season. Well, you typically don't just unlock a two-time league MVP like him, but it appears that his playmaking will be heavily relied on by his new team in this campaign much more than in any other season of his career.
After the game, head coach Erik Spoelstra compared Giannis to a legend in Magic Johnson when it comes to his mix of stature and playmaking. That is a soft confirmation that Miami will basically treat the superstar as their nominal point guard this season, which is probably the most dangerous role he has ever had so far.
The Bucks previously had Antetokounmpo do the same, but it was never really a primary resort for them. Now, he will be the one dictating the pace and tempo of the game, making him the clear-cut center of gravity for this squad.
Obviously, that will be a dangerous thing for defenses to deal with. Giannis at full speed handling the ball will be a tall task for any player, and the Heat now has more three-point shooting around him to thwart defenses from focusing all the attention on him.
Miami will still need time to iron out the offense that it wants to utilize this season, but even after just a single game, people are now seeing just how high the ceiling can be for their scoring attack with Giannis Antetokounmpo manipulating the game with his playmaking.
