Nick Sirianni laid out the Philadelphia Eagles' plan for their Week 5 trip to London on Monday, a day after a 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams left them 2-2 and on a two-game losing streak.
The Eagles will hold a normal practice week in Philadelphia, fly overnight on Friday, land Saturday morning and hold a walkthrough before facing the Jaguars on Sunday. The game is at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with kickoff at 9:30 a.m. ET, and the team flies home right after it.
"We felt like leaving Friday was best for our team, this team, and with the schedule that we have with the weeks coming up," Sirianni said. "A lot of research went through it, you guys know, I've discussed these things with you about short weeks, long weeks, rain weeks, hot weeks, whatever it may be, international weeks, of how to kind of go about it.
"We're trying to get a full week's worth of practice in before we go up there. But we felt like, through the studies that we did and through some of the things that we looked at, all the things that we looked at, we decided on this. At the end of the day, I got to make those decisions and this is the decision I chose, with the help of great people no doubt."
The #Eagles will practice in Philadelphia all week, fly to London on Friday, play the #Jaguars on Sunday and immediately fly home afterward, per HC Nick Sirianni. “We felt like leaving Friday was best for our team, this team, and with the schedule that we have with the weeks coming up. ... The Eagles host the Carolina Panthers at 1 p.m. ET on Oct. 18 with no bye in between, and the Dallas Cowboys come to Philadelphia after that. Flying home right after the game puts the team back in Philadelphia for a normal Panthers week.
The cost is about a day-and-a-half in London before kickoff.
For the 2024 season opener in Brazil, the Eagles left two days early and spent two nights in a hotel before the game. Sirianni said the trip was different, partly because it opened the season and involved a 10-hour flight.
"We went through all this," Sirianni said. "I don't want to get into too many specifics there. Like I said, we feel like this is giving our team the best chance to win, taking everything into account, jet lag included."
Philadelphia played on Sunday without DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and Lane Johnson, then lost Saquon Barkley early in the game.
Jacksonville enters at 3-1 and atop the AFC South, and the Eagles opened the week as underdogs.
