Michigan's Kyle Whittingham reveals what he's going to do about Wolverines' collapse

The Michigan Wolverines are used to winning, and it wasn't that long ago that they won the national championship. That was back in 2024, but now, the team has a 3-2 overall record and is 0-2 in Big Ten conference play for their first season under head coach Kyle Whittingham. That's coming out of a loss against Minnesota. They're also not ranked in the AP Top 25.

For a franchise that lives and breathes football, this obviously isn't a happy place. So, what's Whittingham going to do about it? Appearing on the "Inside Michigan Football" radio show this week, he opened up about his bye week strategies.

Michigan's Kyle Whittingham plans to use the bye week for self-analysis

Whittingham said he was going to do a lot of self-analysis during the team's week off.

"Self-analysis: what do we do best?" Whittingham said to host Jon Jansen, per Maize N Brew. "What is our, through five games, what's been our strength? Where do we need to gravitate? What do we need to gravitate towards schematically? Personnel-wise, you know, who have been our best players through those five games? And are we getting those best players on the field often enough and enough reps?"

He also talked about something that's been getting a lot of attention: the Wolverines having fourth-quarter leads only to lose games.

"Two weeks in a row, we've held a lead going into the fourth quarter, and haven't been able to hang onto it," Whittingham added, "and that's at the top of the list of the most discouraging things is to go into the fourth quarter, you know, ahead and just not being able to finish."

So, that's Whittingham's plan of action. Do some self-analysis to see why this team isn't making wins happen, especially against their rivals in the Big Ten.
