Robert Saleh shares strong Cam Ward statement amid Titans' 0-4 start

Conversations about whether or not first-year Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh should bench second-year quarterback Cam Ward in favor of backup Mitchell Trubisky will continue to hover over the 0-4 club as long as it remains winless this fall.

While speaking with reporters on Monday, Saleh suggested that those who think Ward should sit are going to be disappointed.

Titans believe Cam Ward is improving

"We have the utmost confidence in Cam," Saleh explained, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "We really do. I’m not trying to stand up here and show strength. The kid’s gonna be a damn good quarterback. Everyone just needs to take a deep breath and let him grow. If you can’t objectively sit down and watch tape and look at him from Week 1 of last year to Week 1 of this year to Week 4 [Sunday], and not see improvement, and a young man who’s trending in the right direction, then you’re just being biased to your own opinion."

Pro-Football-Reference stats show that Ward ended Week 4 of the campaign ranked 20th in the NFL among qualified players with a 47.6 adjusted QBR and 20th with an 81.4 passer rating. Over the Titans' first four games of the season, he tossed three touchdown passes and two interceptions.

Cam Ward coming off his "best game" of the season

In Tennessee's 24-18 loss to the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday, Ward completed 20-of-31 passes for 222 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 27 yards on four carries.

"I do think it was the best game he’s played this year," Saleh said of Ward's performance against the Ravens. "When you look at it as a whole, he made a lot of plays with his feet, a lot of plays off schedule, did a good job hanging in the pocket. I thought he did a lot of good things, and he’s done a nice job building off the positives that we’ve had each week."

The Titans next host the 0-4 Houston Texans on Oct. 11. As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Tennessee as a seven-point home underdog for that game.

One wonders how Saleh may handle his quarterback situation if Ward is responsible for a flop of an outing at Tennessee's Nissan Stadium this coming Sunday.
