Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer rips 'trainwreck' Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines are in a bit of a tailspin, but that was to be expected after what should have been a loss to Western Michigan to start the season.

The Wolverines got bailed out in that game with an extra second against Western, but luck has not been on their side since. In fact, in a twist of fate, the Wolverines lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes in Week 4 on a last-second touchdown grab. They followed that up in Week 5 with a road loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Now at 3-2 (and they should be 2-3), a ton of heat is being placed on quarterback Bryce Underwood, and that makes sense. Underwood looked terrible against Minnesota, completing just 10 of 21 passes for 101 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

It's bad business, without a doubt.

Speaking of bad business, Urban Meyer is somebody Michigan fans undoubtedly wish would stay out of their business. But now a prominent college football analyst for Fox, the former Ohio State head coach believes there's more than just a quarterback issue going on in Ann Arbor.

Recently breaking down the Wolverines on "The Triple Option" podcast, Meyer revealed that he just doesn't see that "it" factor with Kyle Whittingham's team.

It's not just about the Michigan offense, either, which is struggling.

“I don’t see a fast solution at all because … have not said this yet, It’s a trainwreck right now,” Meyer said of Michigan (h/t On3). “….This is not all on (Bryce Underwood). Unfortunately, he plays that position that is all on him. You know, whenever they win, the quarterback gets too much glory, and when they lose, they get too much blame. But that sideline, I just didn’t feel the dudes anywhere."

Urban Meyer says Michigan is lacking passion, energy and toughness

There's a competitive edge that good teams have, and Meyer would know better than most what to look for. He went 187-32 as a head coach and won championships at Florida and Ohio State.

Is he biased as a former OSU head coach? Potentially. Meyer says he just doesn't see that competitive juice from Michigan, though.

“I was looking. I was staring. You know, plays are going on, and I’m staring because I did that for so long. I’m saying, ‘where are the grown a-s men?’ And I didn’t feel it. I didn’t see it when there had to be a big stop. I didn’t see the, you know, the energy, and you know, I just didn’t see it … Passion, energy, and toughness. I didn’t see it," Meyer said.

Things aren't going to get any easier for the Wolverines, either. They must still face No. 7 Indiana, No. 13 Oregon, No. 21 UCLA and, of course, No. 5 Ohio State.
