Tony Romo’s future as a broadcaster is in question after his exit from CBS Sports, but Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had nothing but support for his former quarterback.
Jones appeared on his usual segment of 105.3 The Fan, and he spoke highly of Romo, saying he’s “just getting started.”
“He’s just getting started. He really is,” Jones said. “I say that with all sincerity. He’s just getting started. And he certainly has had some — made some mistakes… But he realizes that there’s an area of his life that he wants to do better in.
“He’s got great opportunity ahead of him. I don’t know of anyone — period — that has a better future than Tony Romo. And I’m excited for him. He’s not only got great talent but he’s a hell of a man,” Jones concluded.
Romo was arrested for an OWI in July, and he was placed on leave by CBS. He was then officially let go in October by the network, with it being reported that the two sides “mutually agreed to part ways.”
Romo’s career with CBS began in 2017 after he concluded his NFL tenure. He then signed a new deal in 2020 that was set to pay him around $17 million a year.
Romo returning to CBS was always viewed as “highly unlikely,” though Jones made it clear that he thinks his former QB has a career in broadcasting, and he should have another opportunity elsewhere.
