Visibly frustrated Jerry Jones keeps making big moves but Cowboys keep losing

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been overseeing the NFL's most consistently mediocre franchise for the better part of the past 30 years.

His beloved Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since 1995, which was also the last time they played in a Super Bowl.

Their NFC Championship Game drought, which also goes back to that same season, is the longest in the NFC.

They have won just five playoff games over that stretch.

Despite that lack of success, Jones has been making every big move that he can in an effort to get his team back over the hump and back to a Super Bowl level. The results are not following, and he started to show some visible frustration at the end of his team's stunning 24-16 loss to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.

Jerry Jones shows visible frustration as Cowboys again fail to deliver results

When Tampa Bay's Alex Anzalone pulled in a game-deciding interception in the final minutes, the Amazon cameras caught an obviously frustrated Jones slamming the counter in front of him in his owner's box.

As if that was not enough frustration, he got up and walked out of his box before the clock even hit zero.

When you look at the moves he has made over the past couple of years, it is not hard to see the desperation in everything he is doing.

It just might not actually be for the long-term benefit of the franchise.

Or the short-term.

His decision to trade superstar edge-rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers before the 2025 season netted him defensive lineman Kenny Clark and two first-round picks, but it also helped send his defense to the bottom of the NFL.

That trade was accompanied by the move for wide receiver George Pickens, the trade for defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, the trade for Rashan Gary and the most recent move for cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

He's spent significant draft pick capital, he's spent big money to retain players like CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott and he seems to truly believe he has a team that is capable of winning right now. But after back-to-back seven-win seasons, and a team that is now 2-3 and was just humiliated at home by an undrafted rookie quarterback (Jalon Daniels), it is hard to imagine how he can believe that outside of major delusions. Maybe the reality is starting to set in.
