LeSean McCoy is not holding back.
The former Pitt Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles star has seen some great wide receivers in his time in the game.
McCoy was selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft and his career saw him play in Philly, Buffalo, Kansas City and Tampa Bay.
At that highest level of competition, McCoy played alongside players like DeSean Jackson, Tyreek Hill and Mike Evans.
And yet, none of those star wideouts hold a candle to Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.
This is according to Shady McCoy himself.
Speaking with Bleacher Report, McCoy gushed about the OSU wideout.
“This is the greatest receiver I’ve ever laid eyes on,” McCoy said (h/t On3). “Man. He is the greatest wide receiver I’ve ever seen. Argue with your mama. Speed, size, hands. (Greatest) I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen a lot of them.”
It's not just about the guys that McCoy played with either. Like many pro athletes, he grew up watching the game he played.
Smith belongs in the great category with some of the legends that McCoy came up with.
“My favorite growing up was Peter Warrick,” McCoy said. “I thought he was God great. I used to love … who else? Larry Fitzgerald. C’mon. Pitt, stand up. Julio (Jones) was nice. AJ Green was really, really good too. The difference is I can see Julio’s body frame on Jeremiah, but he’s way more developed. He’s way more advanced.”
More advanced than Julio Jones? That's saying something.
The numbers may flesh that out, though, because Smith is on a tear for the Buckeyes.
In the past two games alone, he's caught 23 passes for 423 yards and six touchdowns.
On the season, Smith has caught 44 passes for 823 yards and nine touchdowns. He's on pace for 106 receptions, 1,975 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns, which is truly incredible stuff.
Everybody is enamored with Smith, and McCoy is simply the latest to say something incredible about him. Heck, Steve Sarkisian, who coached against Smith a few weeks ago, compared the Ohio State wide receiver to Randy Moss.
When people who have been around the game at a high level are flabbergasted at the level of talent, then you know it's for real.
Is Smith the greatest wide receiver ever? That's still to be determined.
So far so good, though.
