NFL teams are already making changes, mainly if they're losing teams, and even though we're just in Week 5 of the season, time is getting tight when it comes to turning a season around. One team that really needs some help is the Detroit Lions.
The Lions are 2-2 and flirting with last place in the NFC North. They just dropped a game to the Carolina Panthers that they were favored to win, and they're already looking like a much weaker team than NFC rivals the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. So, what's a team to do?
The team's defense is having problems. It's allowing 31.8 points per game, which puts them at 31st in the NFL, and 287.3 passing yards per game, which is the third-worst mark in the league.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report says that he could see the Lions already replacing defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard.
"Last year's defense finished the season ranked 18th overall and 22nd in points allowed. This year, the group has been even worse," he notes.
This change could happen soon, too. Knox says that "if the defense again collapses against the Arizona Cardinals this week, the Lions might even consider making changes at the Week 6 bye - ahead of pivotal matchups against the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings."
While the team looks through possible replacements, Knox points out that they could easily slot in defensive line coach and run-game coordinator Kacy Rodgers on an interim basis.
