2026 marks Jim Harbaugh's seventh season as an NFL head coach. It will likely be his first with a losing record as his Los Angeles Chargers are off to an unimaginable 0-5 start.
The latest loss came at home on Sunday, though SoFi Stadium in Inglewood seemed to be filled with mostly Denver Broncos fans. Justin Herbert managed to throw for a measly 121 yards, committing two crucial turnovers that contributed to the loss.
The Chargers entered the game with a long list of injuries all over the offense, but it's not a complete excuse for just how bad the unit has looked all season.
Harbaugh spoke after the game and was asked what his message is to his team right now. His answer will not inspire any confidence in fans that there is any hope of a turnaround this season.
Harbaugh's message to his team is that he apparently doesn't have a message.

"I don't know what that message is," was his reply. It's not a good sign when a head coach is at such a loss for words just five games into a season.
Chargers fans are likely at a similar loss for words because the team entered the season with Super Bowl expectations. Mike McDaniel showed up as the team's new offensive coordinator and was widely expected to take Herbert and the offense to new heights.
Instead, Herbert looks lost within the new offense and is making uncharacteristic mistakes. One example was the interception he threw right to a waiting Broncos defender late in Sunday's loss.

He does not look like his usual self and everyone is seeking an explanation for why he is playing so poorly.
The Chargers are now gearing up for a Week 6 road game against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. That is followed by a bye week in which it's very likely the Chargers enter with a record of 0-6.
That means trades and firings are likely on the horizon, with McDaniel looking like the first logical fall guy. Harbaugh's own status remains unknown as well, though it may not make much sense to fire him during the season.
Nothing is going right for the Chargers in 2026 and the outspoken Harbaugh doesn't even have an explanation.
