Vikings seem ready to trade Jauan Jennings after Odell Beckham Jr. signing

Almost immediately after it was learned last week that the Minnesota Vikings had signed veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad, rumors surfaced suggesting that the Vikings could make offseason acquisition Jauan Jennings available ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.

It certainly seems like people within the Vikings want it known that Jennings could be had for the right price.

Would Jauan Jennings welcome a homecoming?

According to David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport suggested during Tuesday's edition of "The Pat McAfee Show" that Jennings could be traded before October comes to an end. Jennings has mostly become an afterthought with the Vikings, as he has thus far recorded just two receptions for nine yards this season.

Jennings played under San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan from 2020 through the 2025 season, and the 49ers have routinely been linked with receivers who could be traded before Nov. 10. For an article published on Wednesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrote that "Jennings is the forgotten man in Minnesota's passing attack" and "would fit well with any Shanahan-style scheme, which is much of the league now."

Vikings have millions of reasons to hold onto Jauan Jennings for now

Along with the 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders have been mentioned as potential landing spots for receivers. Meanwhile, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk explained on Wednesday why the Vikings likely won't be in a hurry to release Jennings before the trade deadline.

"In lieu of simply cutting Jennings," Florio said, "there’s a possible deal to be made that would get the Vikings something of value in exchange for the balance of his one-year contract, which included a $4.5M signing bonus with a $1.63M base salary and nearly $100,000 per game in active roster bonuses and incentives tied to playing time and receptions."

Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jerry Jeudy of the Cleveland Browns and Quentin Johnston of the Los Angeles Chargers are among other recognizable receivers who reportedly could be traded before Nov. 10. It remains to be seen how the futures of those players could impact where Jennings is calling home at this time in a month.
