Just last week, multiple reports said that the Cleveland Browns were "not looking to trade" backup quarterback Shedeur Sanders and were instead committed to playing "the long game" regarding his overall development.
It has since been learned that Sanders made a move that will inevitably spark renewed rumors about whether or not he could be dealt before the NFL trade deadline arrives on Nov. 10.
"Sanders, who went through draft night and the early part of his NFL career without an agent, has signed with Adie von Gontard, CEO of Young Money APAA Sports, for representation," ESPN's Adam Schefter shared on Wednesday. "With the signing, YMAPAA now represents former Colorado teammates Travis Hunter (of the Jacksonville Jaguars) and Sanders."
Sanders seemed close to becoming Cleveland's QB1 after Deshaun Watson produced a stinker in the club's 34-10 Week 1 loss at the Jaguars. However, Watson later helped the Browns earn three consecutive wins, and a Wednesday report noted that "Watson's runway is longer than it was six weeks ago."
Watson is on track to start when the Browns host the 4-1 Baltimore Ravens this Sunday and when Cleveland plays at the 0-5 Tennessee Titans on Oct. 25. Meanwhile, some understandably may assume that Sanders is looking to follow in the footsteps of wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. this fall.
Earlier in October, a report revealed that Harrison officially hired Todd France and Tory Dandy as his agents back on Sept. 23. After the Arizona Cardinals traded Harrison to the Houston Texans via a deal that became official on Monday, a story noted Harrison's hiring of those agents laid "the groundwork" for his eventual exit from Arizona.
Of course, 3-2 Cleveland doesn't have to trade Sanders before Nov. 10. If nothing else, Watson's well-known injury history could cause Browns general manager Andrew Berry to want to hold onto a QB2 who won multiple games with the club as a rookie.
That said, Wednesday's developments will inevitably leave some assuming that Sanders believes he has no long-term future with the Browns.
"And after 5 weeks, maybe he sees the writing on the wall, maybe he thought he'd be in by now, everyone else did, he's frustrated," - Rizz and @HammerNation19 speculate that Shedeur hiring an agent could mean a trade is coming.
