Congratulations pour in for Cody Bellinger after he's announced as Gold Glove finalist

The New York Yankees season came to a crashing end last week when they were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS. It was a disappointing result for a team built to make it back to the World Series.

Still, there were plenty of bright spots from the regular season, and one of them was certainly left fielder Cody Bellinger. The 31-year-old signed a five-year, $162.5 million deal with the Yankees last winter to extend his stay in the Bronx, and it worked out in New York’s favor.

He earned his third career All-Star selection this year and posted a .264 batting average, .338 on-base percentage and .768 OPS across 132 games.

That is not the only value Bellinger provided, though. While he no longer suits up in center field, he has become one of the best defensive left fielders in baseball.

According to Baseball Savant, he posted a Fielding Run Value of 8 and an Outs Above Average of 6. His arm was also one of the best in the outfield, frequently deterring runners from taking an extra base.

As a result, he was nominated for an American League Gold Glove Award in left field on Wednesday. “Congratulations to our @RawlingsSports Gold Glove finalists: Austin Wells, Cody Bellinger & José Caballero ,” the Yankees wrote on X.

Fans were quick to congratulate Bellinger and the other nominees in the comments.

“Well deserved Belli ⚾️,” wrote a fan.

“Bellinger is very deserving,” added another.

One more said, “Really hoping Bellinger gets it, he deserves it after the amount of carrying he had to do.”

“Belli!!” wrote another.

“Bellinger should be the favorite,” said one fan.

Bellinger will have to beat out Wyatt Langford of the Texas Rangers and Chandler Simpson of the Rays. If he wins, it would mark the second Gold Glove of his career. Rawlings will announce the winners on Sunday, November 1st.
