Brewers move one step closer to first World Series championship in franchise history

For the first time since 1982 and just the second time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series.

Milwaukee Brewers dominated the NLCS

Milwaukee knocked off the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Thursday to secure a four-game sweep in the National League Championship Series. The series sweep for Milwaukee comes just one season after it was embarrassed and swept in the NLCS by the same Los Angeles team.

The win for the Brewers on Thursday marked their first National League pennant in franchise history. Milwaukee's win in the 1982 League Championship Series came when it was still a part of the American League.

Milwaukee secured the sweep in comeback fashion

Things seemed bleak for Milwaukee in the second inning after a monster home run from Shohei Ohtani extended the Dodgers' lead to 4-0. For the Brewers, though, the four-run deficit wasn't too big for them at all, and they stormed back in the final six innings.

Milwaukee's offense scored six straight runs from innings 4-9, highlighted by a game-tying walk from first baseman Jake Bauers and go-ahead home run from centerfielder Garrett Mitchell.

If the comeback win felt familiar, that's because it was. Los Angeles had a lead over Milwaukee six times in the series, but it was the Brewers offense that continued to fight back and emerge victorious in all four games.

With that, Milwaukee is the first team in MLB history with a comeback victory in each game of a four-game sweep.

The Brewers now await the winner of the ALCS

Milwaukee will now have several off days before it ramps up for its first World Series game in 44 years. Game 1 of the World Series will be Friday, Oct. 23, at American Family Field in Milwaukee.

With the home-field advantage, the Brewers will return home and await the winner of the ALCS between the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays.

Once they return home, the Brewers will celebrate for a bit before they refocus their attention toward bringing a World Series championship back to Milwaukee.
