The Los Angeles Dodgers may have gotten swept on Thursday night, but for a moment, their fans had some hope.
Superstar Shohei Ohtani entered Game 4 of the NLCS on Thursday night mired in one of the worst slumps of his career. It got so bad that he was not only dropped down in the batting order earlier in the series, but there was even speculation he could be benched.
He finally busted out of that slump in the bottom of the second inning on Thursday with a towering, majestic three-run home run against the Milwaukee Brewers.
It was a relief for the Dodgers and their fans.
It also seemed to be a huge relief for Ohtani given his celebration.
With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Ohtani took a 1-1 pitch from Brewers relief pitcher Dustin May and launched it deep into the right field bleachers.

It was immediately followed by a rare show of emotion from Ohtani that included an incredible bat flip and emphatic gestures and yelling toward the Dodgers dugout.

There were a lot of emotions coming out there. Not only his relief at finally hitting a home run (his first since Aug. 18), but also trying to ignite something in a team that was down 3-0 in the series and needed to win four consecutive games.
Only one team in Major League Baseball history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series. (It was the 2004 Boston Red Sox , which also included current Dodgers manager Dave Roberts as part of that roster.)
The Dodgers will not join the Red Sox in that exclusive club — at least not this season. The Brewers rallied to bead L.A., 6-4, ending its season.
