Warriors' fans can breathe a sigh of relief after Stephen Curry injury scare

The last thing the Golden State Warriors need is another injury to their lineup.

Golden State is already going to be without Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis for a good portion of the season, and for a moment on Sunday, it appeared that superstar Stephen Curry was headed for an extended absence himself.

Stephen Curry appeared to suffer a serious injury Sunday

Golden State hosted an open practice Sunday for fans and while the fans were filled with excitement when entering the building, they left with a sense of worry and concern.

That was due to Curry appearing to suffer a non-contact knee injury. Curry limped to the sideline to catch his breath for a moment before continuing his limp into the locker room.

What originally appeared to be a serious and scary injury was luckily not the case for Curry, and his status has been revealed by his head coach, Steve Kerr.

Curry is dealing with an ankle injury

According to Kerr, Curry tweaked his ankle during Sunday's practice, a much better outcome and result than the initial fear of a knee injury.

Kerr told reporters that Curry told him that he was fine, something that should certainly calm the nerves of Warriors fans who were fearing the worst when Curry went to the locker room.

Golden State needs Curry at full health

Without the aforementioned Butler and Porzingis for a good chunk of the season, the Warriors are going to need Curry to perform extremely well if they have any hopes of remaining in the postseason hunt while the roster gets healthy.

Golden State will be counting on the likes of Gui Santos and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg to provide offense alongside Curry. Without the future Hall of Famer in the lineup to score and distribute the ball, points will be hard to come by for the Warriors offense.

If it is indeed just a tweaked ankle for Curry, he'll have until Wednesday to heal up before Golden State's season-opener against Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers.
