When the Philadelphia Eagles shared the news on Monday that quarterback Jalen Hurts is out for the entire season with blood clots in his lungs, it really shook the NFL world.
While winning is important in the NFL, health means even more, and it's obvious that the franchise's priority is making sure Hurts gets healthy again after this serious diagnosis.
Former college football coach Nick Saban was also moved by the news, so much so that he personally reached out to Hurts after hearing about it. The two apparently still have a close connection, and Saban sent him a text message on Monday.
On Monday afternoon, Saban was at the Birmingham Quarterback Club and talked about his connection with Hurts. He opened up about the kind message he sent him.
"I texted him," Saban said, according to Andrew Hammond of Alabama.com. "He sent 'Miss Terry' the prettiest flowers when we had our documentary [premiere]; whatever you call that we had. He did such a first-class job. We thanked him for all the support, and I told him our thoughts and prayers are with him and for a speedy recovery."
The two have quite a history together. They were together from 2016 to 2018 at Alabama, and after that stint, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma the following year. Saban and Hurts also won SEC championships together and the 2017 national championship, according to Hammond.
