Senators' Linus Ullmark leaves game against Panthers

Here we go again.

In the third period of a game against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night, Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark left the game after suffering an apparent lower-body injury.

Ullmark was hurt just a few minutes into the final period of regulation. After making a save on a long-range shot, he went to go push to his left and quickly keeled over in the butterfly position.

Ullmark stayed in that position for a few minutes, while some of his teammates got into a scuffle between the benches. He was eventually helped off the ice with the help of the Senators’ training staff and teammate Claude Giroux.

The Swedish backstop made 16 saves on 17 shots in over 43 minutes of action on Wednesday night, only surrendering a goal to former captain Brady Tkachuk. Samuel Ersson came in relief, but didn’t need to do much, only making one save as the Sens ran away with a spirited 5-1 victory.

For Ottawa fans, seeing Ullmark injured has become the norm since he was dealt to the team in 2024. While he’s played at least over half of the games in each of his first two seasons, he has been on and off the injured list, along with taking a personal leave of absence last season. He’s already missed some time this year, as an injury against the Boston Bruins earlier this month knocked him out for one game.

No reports have described the severity of Ullmark’s injury, but if he misses significant time, it could spell trouble for the team ahead of him. In eight games thus far, the 33-year-old has a record of 7-1-0, with a 1.33 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage. He’s been a crucial part of Ottawa’s hot start to the new season.

The Senators (7-3-0) don’t have much time to wait, as they host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.
