Considering that the Toronto Blue Jays relied heavily on left-handed reliever Mason Fluharty in the 2026 season (83 games pitched), they would benefit from adding another southpaw to their bullpen this offseason.
San Diego Padres left-hander Adrian Morejon is a free agent and high-leverage multi-inning reliever who would help upgrade the Blue Jays' relief corps for the 2027 season.
Aside from Fluharty, the Blue Jays lack depth with left-handed relievers, with only Brendon Little, Brendan Cellucci and Ricky Tiedemann. Tiedemann is also a traditional starting pitcher, and while he will likely continue to pitch out of the pen in 2027, he has a limited workload coming off of Tommy John surgery.
Morejon would supply the Blue Jays with high-end velocity that would make for a dominant bullpen alongside set-up man Tyler Rogers and closer Louis Varland.
The 27-year-old appeared in a career-high 76 games this season while also logging 86 innings pitched. He also boasted a 9-3 record with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP.
He also capped off his successful 2026 campaign by striking out 107 batters, which was the third-most by all MLB relievers in 2026, behind only Mason Miller and Aaron Ashby.
The Cuban reliever is also known for inducing weak contact with a 58% groundball rate paired with producing a sub-3.00 ERA across the last three seasons.
Morejon's arsenal also contains a commanding slider and changeup that dominates hitters at both sides of the plate. His changeup was a huge weapon in 2026 as he notched an explosive 56% whiff rate and 53.2% strikeout rate.
