Karl-Anthony Towns is not being unreasonable in his contract desires from the New York Knicks.

The Knicks star big man Towns is eyeing a four-year extension in the range of $225 million to $240 million, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported Friday. Siegel adds that Towns may be targeting at least the average annual value figure of $54 million that Cleveland Cavaliers big Evan Mobley recently got on his new extension in July.

Towns, the six-time NBA All-Star, was eligible for a max extension for four years and $276 million with the Knicks over the offseason. But the Knicks, in their desire to avoid the second apron of the luxury tax, did not ultimately give it to him.

Now 30 years old, Towns is making $57 million this season with a $61 million player option for 2027-28 as well. After helping lead the Knicks to the NBA championship last season, Towns would be justified in asking for a pay raise (though he would actually be in line for a pay cut at those desired numbers).

Still, the Knicks alienated Towns earlier this month by announcing publicly that they would be tabling extension negotiations for all of their eligible players until later on in the season. Towns responded a few days later by saying that he was “very disappointed” in the team.

Towns’ current contract situation means that that he can become an unrestricted free agent as soon as next summer. As a result, the seven-footer has already been linked to a couple of interesting outside suitors.
