The Kansas City Chiefs made the trip out west to face the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and left with their first loss of the season, 20-3, on "Sunday Night Football."
Here are some takeaways from Sunday's NFL nightcap.
A lot of the focus coming into this one centered around the former Seahawks running back and Super Bowl LX MVP Walker making his return to Seattle. Simply put, it did not go well for him and the previously unbeaten Chiefs (5-1).
Walker was held to just 36 yards on 14 carries after entering the game with the most rushing yards in the league (665) and the most yards per carry (6.3). It was clear what the game plan was from head coach Andy Reid, but the Seahawks (4-3) were not falling for it.
The frustration did not stop there, either, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes was just 19-of-33 for 165 yards with zero touchdowns and this interception from Seahawks safety Ty Okada with the Chiefs across midfield in the second quarter.

In fact, as the NBC broadcast noted, this is the first time in the Mahomes era that the Chiefs have been held out of the red zone for an entire game, which further speaks to how dominant Seattle was.
Seattle entered the night with three losses in its last four games, primarily due to QB Sam Darnold's turnovers and some shaky defense. After a much more efficient performance from their QB (20-of-28, 257 yards, one TD, one interception) and only 213 yards allowed, the Seahawks turned back the clock to last season's Super Bowl run and completely shut the Chiefs down.
Smith-Njigba came into Week 7 with 51.4% of Seattle's receiving yards, which would be the highest in the NFL since 1956, per NBC. The league's receiving yards and TDs leader only added to that with nine catches (on 12 targets) for 150 yards and one TD, 129 of which came in the first half alone.
Smith-Njigba's brilliance was on full display with this miraculous over-the-shoulder TD catch late in the first half that extended Seattle's lead to 10-0.

Smith-Njigba now has at least 100 receiving yards in all but one of the Seahawks' seven games this season. The Chiefs had no answer for him all night, and he made them pay on several occasions.
Although Darnold did a much better job taking care of the ball, he did throw what initially looked like a costly interception with Seattle inside the five-yard line just before the half.
While that pass was picked off by defensive back Nohl Williams and returned across midfield, Butker came up short on a 58-yard attempt, and the Chiefs remained scoreless going into the half.

While he did make a 50-yarder to give the Chiefs their only points of the night in the third quarter, he also missed from 45 yards out in the fourth with a chance to trim the deficit down to seven.
Both of those misses were costly when the offense was relatively nonexistent, but the one prior to halftime took away any potential momentum the Chiefs had following the interception, especially considering he has hit from as far out as 62 in his career.
Safety Nick Emmanwori was instrumental in Seattle's defensive onslaught with four tackles (two solo) and one QB hit. When asked by NBC Sports sideline reporter Melissa Stark how he was able to shut down Walker after the game, he didn't seem surprised at all by that outcome.

That is just another reminder to not count the defending champions out yet, especially if the lack of turnovers can complement that type of defensive performance.
