Phillies set to hire Peter Fatse as new hitting coach

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to shake things up by reportedly hiring Peter Fatse as the team's new hitting coach.

The front office let go of hitting coach Kevin Long and infield coach Bobby Dickerson on Oct. 14. Fatse served as the hitting coach for the Boston Red Sox from 2022 to April 2026.

He is expected to help transform and address the team's offensive woes following their early exit in the postseason. The Phillies were swept by the Atlanta Braves and eliminated in the NL wild-card Series.

As well, the hiring of Fatse is a part of President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski's plan to help make a fresh start for the 2027 season. Their offense overall in 2026 was mediocre as they ranked 19th in the league averaging 4.4 runs per game and a .715 team OPS that was tied for 19th.

Phillies' offensive woes call for Peter Fatse's extensive MLB background

Trea Turner was one of the Phillies' star players who significantly regressed offensively in 2026 and needs to make major adjustments this offseason if he wants to rediscover his dominance.

Turner logged career-lows in offensive metrics with a .242 batting average, a .297 OBP,  a .378 SLG, and a -0.1 bWAR (first time in his career recording a negative bWAR).

Fatse carries a strong background with valuable and ample MLB coaching experience that he can offer to the Phillies franchise. He most recently spent time as the Tampa Bay Rays hitting consultant and joined the Rays' organization in the early 2026 season following his departure from the Red Sox.
