The moment was a little too big for Victor Mesa Jr. during Game 3 of the World Series.

Mesa, the Tampa Bay Rays outfielder, cost his team a run in Monday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. In the third inning at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Brewers were leading 1-0 and had runners at first and second base as catcher William Contreras batted with one out.

Contreras knocked a ball into right field that Mesa had to play on a hop. Mesa failed to secure the ball cleanly though as it fell out of his glove and caused him to lose his balance as he was trying to retrieve it.

That allowed lead runner Jake Bauers, who had initially stopped at third base, to score. Here is the video.

Mesa did still manage to throw out Contreras in between bases there, but the damage was already done by that point. The next batter, Milwaukee’s Brice Turang, then proceeded to ground out, so it is up for debate as to whether Bauers would have scored in that half-inning at all if not for Mesa’s misplay.

Tampa Bay got an incredible play in the outfield just an inning prior when left fielder Chandler Simpson made an amazing catch to save a run. But Mesa then ended up giving that run right back with an unfortunately-timed blunder in right field.
