Hornets' Brandon Miller justifying massive contract after career-high night vs. Wizards

The Charlotte Hornets picked a good time to extend forward Brandon Miller. After his last two games, the 2023 No. 2 overall pick's price is only going up.

On Monday, Miller led the Hornets (3-1) to a 110-103 win over the Washington Wizards (2-2) by scoring a career-high 39 points. A week after landing a long-term extension, Miller is proving well worth the investment.

Brandon Miller's career-high night shows Hornets made wise offseason decision

On Oct. 19, one day ahead of the start of the 2026-27 season, Miller and the Hornets agreed to a five-year, $209 million extension, keeping him signed with the organization through 2031-32.

Monday marked his second consecutive 30-point performance and by far his best game of the young season. Miller shot 15-of-28, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, while adding six rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist. His first three-pointer four minutes into the second quarter was his 500th career make from deep in his 170th career game, making him the second-fastest to reach the mark in NBA history.

His fifth three extended Charlotte's lead to nine, 93-84, midway through the fourth quarter.

Through four games, Miller has had the green light to shoot at will, already attempting 93 shots, including 57 over his past two games, both wins.

This offseason, the Hornets shifted to a core built around Miller, and games like Monday showed what's possible with him in a starring role. In July, the front office traded former franchise cornerstone point guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves, followed three days later by a deal sending forward Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns.

Coming off a 44-38 season, the franchise's best since 2021-22, that slight teardown came with concerns, but Miller is quickly putting those to rest. The Hornets appear to be in excellent hands with him leading the show.
