Steelers climb NFL power rankings behind Aaron Rodgers, Mike McCarthy

The Pittsburgh Steelers are winning games and moving up NFL power rankings heading into Week 8. Even if these wins haven't always been easy, and sometimes, they've even been messy, the Steelers are now 5-2 and are looking good heading into the second part of the season.

After the handful of Week 7 games for the NFL, the league's official website has unleashed its power rankings. The Steelers went up three spots in the rankings, which is significant, and are now No. 14 in the league. What's especially worth noting, though, is how the teamwork between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy is working out.

In the piece, NFL reporter Nick Shook highlights that Rodgers and McCarthy are doing something that's hard to ignore: they're following each other's directions and executing accordingly.

Shook says that he's "having a difficult time discounting the Steelers" and that even though "they defeated another NFC South team by a slim margin," the "promising developments" he's watching on tape are simply "undeniable."

"The key difference: Aaron Rodgers' willingness to accept Mike McCarthy's in-game adjustments and execute them as intended," he adds.

Shook serves up some examples, noting, "In the Week 6 win at Tampa Bay, they shifted to a shorter passing game. In Sunday's Paris win over New Orleans, they decided it was best to ride with both Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth on the field at the same time, eliminating their early predictability. Rodgers even scrambled for a first down late, which made me feel like I had entered a time machine."

He concludes, "Instead, it was just another victory for the 2026 Steelers, who have enough to continue winning in this fashion and don't seem interested in going away."

So, Rodgers and McCarthy are working well together, and it doesn't appear there's any disagreement over who should make the calls. They're complimenting each other, much like they did in Green Bay, and that's a beautiful thing for Steelers fans.
