J.J. McCarthy helps Giants climb up the NFL's official power rankings

The New York Giants are in a place they haven't been in a while: the top spot in the NFC East. Just how long has it been? Well, the last time the Giants won the NFC East division title was in 2011, so it's been a minute since they've done this well.

Now, the Giants are coming off a win with quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and the NFL world is taking notice. Sunday marked McCarthy's first game starting as a Giants quarterback, and he and head coach John Harbaugh helped pull off a win to bring this franchise's record to 4-2-1.

After the conclusion of Week 7 games for the NFL, the league's official website has released its official power rankings going into Week 8. The Giants went up a significant amount: four spots. They're now No. 17 in the rankings.

Giants climb NFL power rankings as J.J. McCarthy and John Harbaugh make New York fun to watch

In the rankings, NFL reporter Nick Shook highlights just how wild it is that McCarthy is the team's quarterback, when everyone was expecting to watch Jaxson Dart make his mark in New York this season. But he also gives McCarthy props.

"J.J. McCarthy threw the Giants to a win over the Texans, just as we all expected to happen when this season started," he states in the piece. "New York has entered an alternate dimension of absurdity, but I cannot deny that it's fun to watch. Malachi Fields is for real, McCarthy already has a rapport with Malik Nabers, and it appears the Giants have regained their ability to run the ball."

He adds that Harbaugh will probably "bench someone for a minor issue again within a few weeks, because that's just how these Giants roll." He's referring to Harbaugh benching running back Cam Skattebo for a game when he wasn't performing too well, only to see Skattebo come back in Week 7 for his strongest performance yet.

So, the Giants are fun to watch, and there's no reason they can't continue to entertain in New York.
