What new 4-star SF commit Dylan Jones brings to Texas A&M basketball

Dylan Jones will be an important commitment for head coach Bucky McMillan and the Texas A&M Aggies.

He's a 4-star small forward from Bartlett, Tennessee, and he committed to the Aggies over Ole Miss and Providence.

Jones checks in at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds and he's an extremely intriguing athlete. Per the rankings, he's also an elite 2027 small forward commitment.

The 247Sports Composite ranks him No. 8 at his position and he's the No. 1 overall basketball recruit from Tennessee.

He committed to Texas A&M because he believes he's a good basketball fit with the Aggies, but he also felt a strong connection with McMillan and the Texas A&M staff.

"I think me and the staff have very, very like basketball minds," Jones told 247Sports. "I feel like, you know, we bonded a lot through basketball, but off the court things as well. We kind of built a relationship to where as now, I could talk to them for, you know, over an hour. It was just some days where it just got like that with our relationship. It honestly just just grew throughout the the whole process it just worked out."

So what does Jones bring to the table for Texas A&M?

Dylan Jones can be an impact player for the Texas A&M Aggies

The athleticism is the one thing that stands out clearly. He's tall and lanky, and he uses his wingspan to his advantage — especially as a defender. He averaged 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game in EYBL play. He's also going to block a lot of shots.

Offensively, Jones brings an intriguing mid-range game to the table. It's a lost art in today's era of basketball, but Jones seems to have some Richard "Rip" Hamilton or DeMar DeRozan in his game.

He's especially deadly with his turnaround jumper and his length makes it an incredibly effective shot for him.

Jones averaged 17 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, shooting 44.5% from the field for Team Thad on the EYBL Circuit this past summer.

“I’m a guy who can come in and make a winning impact," he told Joe Tipton of Rivals. "I can score on all three levels and make the right play whenever needed. I’m an athletic wing who can guard the best players night in and night out.”

Jones is part of a two-man class for Texas A&M with four-star point guard Chase Richardson.
